Increased Front Wheel Base Stance to 32":
The front wheel base stance width is now 32", and increase
of 5". We've redesigned the front of the cycle to achieve
this. So now the front wheel base is 32" and the rear wheel
base is 33". Our old front wheel base stance was 27", and
one of the concerns from our cycle rental location customers
was that with misuse, the cycle could tip.
While we've never had a cycle tip before, it's always better
to be "safe than sorry" in the cycle rental business when it
comes to liability. Redesigning the front end of the cycle,
and adding 5" to the front wheel base, greatly decreases the
chance of the cycle ever tipping and therefore reducing
liability.
Full
Cover Box Chain Guards:
Another recommendation by our cycle rental customers was to
improve the chain guard. While the old chain guards covered
the top of the chain adequately, they left the chain exposed
on the inside of the cycle. While we have never had any
situations with users getting injured because of this
exposed chain, any feature that can decrease liability is a
major improvement.
A few customers told us
that an exposed inside chain could be a "potential"
liability. In response to this, we have built the 2010 Pro
Edition Surrey with a chain guard box where both the top and
inside chain are covered and boxed in.
Another issue with chain guards is that customers tend to
use these at footsteps to get in and out of the cycle. What
we have done is increased the points of attachment of the
chain guard box to the cycle from two points to three
points, making the chain guard more solidly attached to the
cycle.
Rear Wheel Guard Cages:
Another feature request we received last year from our cycle
rental customers was to add rear wheel guard cages, another
liability reducer. We now have left and right rear wheel
guard cages on all Pro Edition cycles.
PVC Canopy Support:
Another bit of feedback we've received from customers is
that in rental locations with rain, the canopy would catch
water and sag where there was no frame support under the
canopy. We have now installed 4" PVC support strips that run
the length of the canopy frame. This gives more support to
the canopy and reduces sagging during rainy days.
Rubber Bellow
Covering for Steering Rod Universal Joint:
Our customers requested that we add a protective covering
over the universal joint on the steering rod. The concern
was that since it's within arm's reach of the driver, there
was a possibility of someone putting their hands near it and
getting fingers caught. The universal joint is now covered
by a rubber bellow.
Upgraded Steel:
We've upgraded the class of
steel used on the frame of the cycle all around.
